The final countdown to Florida

We are finally down to the last few weeks here in New York.  A part of me is very sad but the other part is a little excited.  I am sad to leave my family and friends and everything I have ever known.  I am excited because hopefully life as I know it should get better (financially) and I will be closer to my mom and husbands family.

I don't know if my kids realized it yet but their summer will be cut short because school starts  in Florida the beginning of August.  I feel bad for them.  I know they are sad to leave behind their friends and school and they are scared of starting a new school.  When I was growing up  I moved alot and went to several different schools.  Luckily by the time I was 8 or 9 we settled down in a small town and stayed there until I finished high school.  So I honestly can say I know how my kids feel with the fear of the unknown. 

It's going to be very difficult for us the next few months.  Mr. Amazing hit a little snafu at work and has to stay up here in New York until the end of the year and possibly the beginning of January.  We haven't worked out the details yet of how we will go back and forth visiting each other....But I have tried to keep telling myself that I need to pretend I am a miliary wife....They don't see there husbands for long periods of time because they are serving their country(mine is serving our great city of New York) and have no choice but to work, take care of the kids and house by themself. 

On another note I have alot to do the next few week trasitioning into our new digs.  Before we go I am going to have a pen pal party for my little social butterfly of a daughter next week.  I am trying to figure out what to get so they can make a little letter writing kit. I am open for suggestions..lol

My last few weeks in New York

Sorry I haven't posted lately.  Been very busy.  We are down to the wire now living out our last few weeks here in New York.  I think I am starting to get depressed or maybe I am just lonely.  Mr. Amazing is already in Florida for the next three weeks training for a new job.  Upon his return he will go back to work for a week and then drive the kids and I down to FLorida.  Unfortunately he has to come back and stay in New York to finish out work until January!  That's going to be tough living without him.  (I am just sick thinking of it)  So I will be invading my mom's house until he comes to meet us there. 

I have absolutely no motivation to pack or even go through anything.  On top of what needs to be done I have family visiting me from the West Coast.  Trying to show them the sights and let my kids enjoy their summer on a limited budget.

What's on the Menu this week

Easter is over and we are all battling colds here.  Fevers, sniffles, coughing  UUGGHHHH.  What a way to start our spring break from school.  I am hoping to take the kids into the city this week to see the Amercan Museum of Natural History and maybe take them bowling or something.  Here is what we are likely to eat this week if I ever get to the foodstore to get what we need

Only until about a year ago I started menu planning.  It truely does save time and money and I think my family enjoys looking at the fridge to see what we are eating for the week (including my brother who is temporarily living with us).  He happened to notice yesterday that I didn't put the menu on the fridge and was asking for it.  He said he likes to see what I am making to know whether or not he will eat dinner with us.  If you don't like what we are having STARVE!! (or eat cereal...lol)  But at least I know someone is paying attention to that menu I post

Monday:  We ate at the Diner since we were feeling under the weather and I wanted soup

Tuesday:  Chicken Chili with white rice

Wednesday:  London Broil on the grill, rice a roni, and green beans

Thursday:  Quesadillas (from leftover london broil) yellow rice and beans

Friday:  Homeade pizza (we are soooo spoiled!)

Saturday:  Our friends are coming for dinner .....Salad,  Sausage & peppers, Ziti, grilled eggplant & portabella mushrooms (my friend is a Vegan), and garlic bread

Sunday:  Leftovers

Weekly Menu Plan & my ramblings

So we are finally settled into our new temporary home.  It feels like we been here forever!  I hate the fact of not owning my home anymore and having to rely on the Landlord for repairs.  So far I had to call him for the clothes dryer that came with this house.  The first time I tried to dry clothes took over 3 hours to dry.  He came and checked and it turned out it really wasn't heating up. So he ordered me a new one within 24hrs.  BUUUUUTTT  it was a dirt cheap dryer.  Non energy effiecient and still takes the clothes about an hour and half to dry.  Then I noticed stains on the dining room ceiling (possible leak from upstaris bathroom) He came and his quick fix was to put silicone in between the loose tiles on the floor.  Apparently Little Lucy must be drip drying on the outside of the tub soaking the floor.  But the tiles were loose when we got here.  Today I had to call him because the oven stopped working!   Uggghh   We only been here a month.

Anyway here is what we are likely to eat this week

Sunday:  Roasted pork loin on the grill, mashed potatoes, sauteed carrots

Monday:     Leftovers

Tuesday:      Beef short ribs, mashed potatoes, broccoli

wednesday:   Fried chicken, orzo,  green beans

Friday:    Pizza

Saturday:  Meatballs & spaghetti, garlic bread

Sunday:  Easter dinner at Aunt Esa's house

All set and ready to move & weekly menu

After spending a week in sunny Florida we are now back in New York with the dreary cold.  Since we will be moving to Florida this summer we just went there to register the kids for school.  They will be starting school in August. It was the first round of registration.  In Fort Myers where we will be moving has a lottery system for their public schools.  I honestly think it's ridiculous.  A lottery for public school?  I spent hours on the computer researching all the schools because on the application you have to mark your choices from 1-17.   I don't think my kids realize this yet...but their summer will be cut in half because of this move. 

In the meantime we have to start packing up the house here and move to a temporary home until the summer.  Then we will be staying with my mom in Florida a few months until my husband is done with work here.....and then move into another place!  Lots of moving in this next year.

What's on the Menu & Moving

Happy New Year everyone!!  I hope it's starting out great for you all.  We sold our house and are now in the process of packing up our home we have been in for 14 years.  I cannot believe how much stuff we have.  We started with my closet and packed up 10 boxes without clothes!  So it's going to be a a very hectic few weeks.
